The name was changed to ‘Program Guide’ in 2022 as the events were no longer included (see note under Covid) as sanctioning events quarterly became more popular.
1985 – 1989 Event calendars were published by the MTTA so only included details on walks within their area, (see map on main history page https://walkalberta.ca/home/history/alberta-history/). Beginning in 1988 there is a listing of other walks within the rest of the province on the second page. It is important to note that any events that weren’t planned when the calendar was published produced a pamphlet at a later date. For example: in 1989 the first Mountain Majesty in Kananaskis doesn’t appear in the calendar. This practice became less common in later years as everyone became accustomed to planning all events in time to make the calendar publishing date in the fall of the previous year.
(The 1992 to 1999 editions of the guide were in newspaper format so we have been unable to scan them to add to this historical record.)
Due to Covid the events published in the calendar after April 2020 weren’t held and subsequent to that year only the permanent trails were included in the guide and thus the ‘Event Calendar’ name was changed to ‘Program Guide’.
